Dear Sir or Madam,
The OpEN.SC will be a highly specialised and large research data base that offers clinical data, literature, study profiles, virtual slides and much more about Nephrology and nephrological transplantation in a multimodal and multipurpose way. The objectives of OpEN.SC are also to provide high quality research and professional interactions for the advancement of science and technology.
The first Workshop of OpEN.SC wil be held on
8-9 May 2006
Location: Institute of Pathology, Charité, Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
Topic of the Workshop:

Scientific Information Network in Medicine – General Aspects and Application in Nephrology and Nephropathology

The focus of interest includes but is not limited to:
  • Research in Nephrology and Nephropathology
  • Communication Standards in Medicine– Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise, DICOM, HL7
  • SOA & Web Services – Technology and Requirements
  • Knowledge Management & AI – Case Based Reasoning, Ontology, Semantic Web
  • Virtual Microscopy – Scanning Technologies, Image Analysis
We offer a scan service for rare and interesting cases: If you send glass slides until 24th April 2006 to the following address

You will get your slides back at the workshop including a file with links to your Virtual Slides at our image server.
After this deadline you have to caculate a handling time of about 14 days. The slides will be sent back automatically.
(Limitation: It is only possible to scan only 5 glass slides per participant.)
